Madrid Cork Flooring
The Cork Collection consists of several earthy colors in a wide variety of patterns. From linear Mikado to marbled Elba, there’s sure to be a Cork Collection option that complements any style.
The structure of cork allows it to be both compressive and elastic. Because of this, cork floors are extremely durable and act as excellent sound and thermal insulators; they will dent or warp when subjected to pressure, but will return to form due to cork’s inherent superior ‘memory’. Cork floors are often used in churches, libraries, and museums where sound control is desired.

Cork is made of the soft, spongy — yet highly durable — tissue found in the bark of the cork oak tree, a species native to the Western Mediterranean region. With an average life span of 150-200+ years, the bark is stripped from the trunks of these trees every nine to 10 years. The resulting planks are then sorted and stacked in the forest for six months. This exposure to the air, sun, rain, and wind triggers chemical reactions that improve the cork’s quality.

Because cork floors are anti-static and hypoallergenic, they resist the build-up of dust and dirt. This simplifies the maintenance and cleaning process and decreases the harmful effects of dust on people who suffer from asthma or other respiratory diseases. The presence of suberin, a waxy substance found in cork, makes these floors impermeable to liquids and gas alike, decreasing the risk of mold growth. Additionally, cork is a natural fire inhibitor and will not spread flame.
